Lord Loomba CBE supports launch of new low-cost, long-haul airline by buying the first POP Gold Pass

POP, the new, low-cost, long-haul airline that plans to operate the only current non-stop flights between the UK and two of India's leading second cities - Amritsar (Punjab) and Ahmedabad (Gujarat) - held its crowdfunding launch party at the Nehru Centre of the High Commission of India in London on Sunday 29th May.

Honoured Guest was Rajinder Paul "Raj", Baron Loomba CBE, who spoke highly about this new initiative and declared his support for POP, in particular for its ‘caring capitalism’ business model. POP will be donating a minimum of 51% of its net profits to charitable causes in the communities it serves both in the UK and India.

During his speech, Lord Loomba pledged to buy the first POP Gold Pass, saying that he has full confidence in the new airline and wants to support it whole-heartedly.

POP requires £5m to launch the airline's first-year operation. This will be raised by a rewards-based crowdfunding campaign which involves the sale of POP Gold Passes, each priced at £500. The first 10,000 Gold Pass holders will win one free off-peak return seat to any POP destination and will, for the following five years, be entitled to a number of VIP benefits both on the ground and in the air, including an extra luggage allowance, priority check in/boarding, extra leg-room seats (when available), complimentary meals and free Wi-Fi, and the opportunity to purchase seats at the lowest fares when released.

Founder and Executive Chairman of the clothing company Rinku Group Ltd, Lord Loomba is a Liberal Democrats life peer in the House of Lords and a renowned philanthropist. The Loomba Foundation, which he founded with his wife Veena, Lady Loomba, was established as a charitable Trust in the UK in 1997. It has sister charities registered in India and the USA.

The primary aim of the Foundation is to promote the fundamental freedoms, human rights and economic empowerment of disadvantaged widows and their children around the world. The inspiration came from Lord Loomba’s late mother, Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba, who became a widow at just 37 but succeeded in educating her seven young children single-handedly.
