SkillForce is a national education and veterans’ charity that works with schools to transform lives. Its mission is to inspire children and young people to see their uniqueness and cherish it, believe in their potential and realize it, and value opportunities and seize them
SkillForce currently supports children and young people aged from 5 to 19 years old in more than 200 primary and secondary schools across England, Scotland and Wales, preparing them for their next steps in education, work or training. It offers value-driven programmes to complement existing educational provisions, which can be tailored to meet the needs of the participating students as well as the requirements of the school.
SkillForce draws on the skills of predominantly ex-services personnel who have served their country and now wish to deploy the knowledge, skills and experience they have gained to serve their community and inspire young people to succeed. Their instructors are positive and empathetic role models who bring with them the values of a service background: discipline, selflessness, courage, resilience, dedication, loyalty, dependability and respect.
Instructors not only run the courses but also act as role models and mentors to the young people who attend. All the courses, across all age ranges, are focused on team-building, leadership training and public service so that these young people can grow to make a real contribution to their communities. These proven education programmes develop self-confidence, resilience and character in the young people who attend.
While the underlying philosophy and focus of the courses is the same across the age ranges, their emphasis varies in line with the ages of the young people being worked with. The primary school programme focuses on developing the character, skills and competencies necessary for secondary education. The secondary school programme helps young people to flourish and discover the value of striving to succeed, belonging to a community and being a responsible citizen. The post-16 course recognizes the importance of life-long learning and gainful employment not only to promote personal well-being and fulfilment but also to create a productive economy and a vibrant, humane society.
SkillForce is committed to supporting the next generation along the way.
HRH The Duke of Cambridge KG KT is SkillForce’s Royal Patron and has given the charity the only two awards in his name: the SkillForce Junior Prince’s Award and the SkillForce Prince’s Award.
You can help SkillForce a little bit more when buying a Gold Pass
Although POP is donating money quarterly to its partner charities starting on the day of POP's first flight, you can help your favourite charity a little bit more when buying a Gold Pass during this crowdfunding period.
SkillForce will earn £10 as a charitable donation from POP every time a POP Gold Pass is bought. This can be done in one of two ways: either by visiting the SkillForce website and following the POP link straight through to POP's 'Buy a Gold Pass' payment portal; or when actually in that payment portal, by choosing SkillForce in the drop-down menu entitled 'How did you hear about us?'. It's that easy!
